About Expedition Deutsch
We are a team of enthusiastic German teachers who have worked for the prestigious Goethe-Institut for many years. We are now bringing that expertise to Expedition Deutsch.
This allows us to continue offering high-quality German courses even after the closure of the Goethe-Institut Rotterdam.
We only work with experienced, qualified and certified native speakers.
The course content is tailored to the learning objectives and different learning styles. Individual support is a priority for us.
We offer tailor-made courses for both individuals and companies in the Rotterdam and The Hague region.
Our Team
Elvira Groot - Manager and teacher
My teaching approach is interactive and student-oriented. My goal is to make the learning process a positive experience for every student. The art of teaching is to find the best learning approach for each individual student.
I think German is the most beautiful language in the world and I would like to share my enthusiasm for my mother tongue with my students. Language is a wonderful way to communicate thoughts, feelings and ideas.
Founding Expedition Deutsch together with my colleagues means that I can contribute all my experience to make this institute an important player in the market.
In my spare time, I am an enthusiastic photographer.
Madlen Munack - Teacher
Hello, my name is Madlen. I believe that language brings people together and opens doors. That's why I teach my native language with great enthusiasm at Expedition Deutsch. Interactive and practical learning combined with fun and ease are always at the forefront of my lessons. That's why I like to incorporate games such as bingo or memory games or German songs that fit the topic to clarify what has been learned. I look forward to getting to know you and guiding you on your personal journey of discovery into the German language.
Linda Blankenburg - Teacher
Hello, my name is Linda and I have been part of Expedition Deutsch since January 2025.
Because I enjoy learning foreign languages myself (currently Dutch and Persian), I have been teaching my native language for just over three years now. For me, language is not only a means of communication, but also a key to new cultures.
I enjoy helping people from different countries achieve their language goals.
Martina Tepeluk - Teacher
Hello, my name is Martina and I am a teacher at Expedition Deutsch.
I grew up in the German-speaking part of Switzerland and have been living in the Netherlands for almost four years now. During this time, I have taught German to children, teenagers and adults.
Learning a new language opens up new possibilities. It allows you to connect with people, discover different cultures and is a valuable skill that you can use when travelling, working and in everyday life. I enjoy helping my students discover new possibilities and seeing them gain more confidence as they learn. It's a great feeling to be part of that process!
In my free time, I like to be creative. I enjoy painting, taking photos and trying out new recipes in the kitchen. I also love travelling and being outdoors.
Rahel Ziethen - Teacher
Hallo allerseits!
My name is Rahel Ziethen and I am a teacher at Expedition Deutsch.
I have always been fascinated by living in different language worlds at the same time. I grew up in Nordhorn, a small town on the Dutch border. The people there spoke High German, Dutch, and some of my best friends also spoke Low German at home. Multilingualism was a normal part of life – even if you only knew a few bits of the other two languages. This atmosphere was probably one of the reasons why I didn't hesitate for a second to start my first degree in Enschede (NL): Fine Arts and Photography, visual languages in themselves. Later, I completed my second degree, Linguistics, in the middle of Germany, in Braunschweig. The subject of my doctoral thesis was a combination of both disciplines, namely a study of text-image relationships in art criticism. Since then – how could it be otherwise... – I have been convinced that far too little attention is paid to what I call media multilingualism... Nevertheless, for personal reasons, I still live half the time in Braunschweig, while the other half I have been working in South Holland for almost ten years. Here I feel like an ambassador for my mother tongue: during the day at Gymnasium Haganum in The Hague and in my free time also for adult learners.
Learning a language always means more than memorising grammatical rules and words. Speaking a foreign language always means more than being able to produce rules without making mistakes: '... to imagine a language is to imagine a way of life.' (Ludwig Wittgenstein). I would like to share the fascination of learning a foreign language with my students, not only to learn the rules, but also to understand a different mentality and even to be able to express their own thoughts in a new way.
