Language levels
Our courses cover the full range of levels, i.e. from beginner level to near-native speaker. The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) has six levels, A1 to C2.
On average, you need 80 to 120 hours to pass one language level (A1, A2, ... ).
At the end of each level, you can take an exam.
A1
I can understand familiar, everyday expressions, understand and use very simple sentences, ask and answer questions about myself, communicate in a simple way, provided the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help.
B1
I can understand the main points of texts in standard language about work, school or leisure, deal with most situations that arise while travelling in the language area, express myself simply and coherently on familiar topics and areas of personal interest, talk about experiences and events, describe dreams, hopes and goals, give short reasons and explanations.
C1
I can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and also grasp implicit meanings, express myself spontaneously and fluently without having to search for clearly recognisable words more often, use language effectively and flexibly in social, professional and educational life, express myself clearly, in a structured and detailed way on complex issues, use different means to connect texts appropriately.
A2
I can understand commonly used expressions (e.g. personal and family information, shopping, work, neighbourhood), communicate in routine situations with the aim of exchanging information, describe my own background and education, immediate surroundings and things related to immediate needs.
B2
I can understand the main content of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics, understand specialised discussions in my own field, communicate fluently enough to allow normal conversation with native speakers without great effort on both sides, express myself clearly and in detail on a wide range of topics, explain a point of view and indicate the advantages and disadvantages of different options.
C2
I understand practically everything, I read or listen with ease, summarise information from different written and oral sources, summarise reasons and explanations, in a coherent presentation, express myself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, and clarify finer nuances of meaning even in more complex situations.
Placement test
We would like to ask all new students to take a placement test first.
If you are a beginner, there is no need to take a placement test, you can enrol directly for an A 1.1 course.
Unless you are not a beginner, you will proceed to the online placement test on our website where you will take the written part.
Subsequently, we will contact you to make an appointment for the oral part of the placement test.
After this test, you will know exactly what level you have, and which German course is most suitable for you.
You can register for your preferred course via the website.
